Mildred and James Walters have been happily married since 1983. During that time they have talked with many single adults about marriage. The essence of those conversations serves as the basis for While You Are Still Single. Both believe that the foundation of a happy marriage is a common spiritual belief. However, sharing a belief is not enough. Faith has to be put into action and exercised on a daily basis.
James and Mildred are currently members of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. James, a native of Phoenix, Arizona was baptized at First Institutional Baptist Church at an early age. After moving to St. Louis, Missouri he joined New Sunny Mount Baptist Church, later becoming a member of Bible Based Church in Tampa, Florida and Orchard Knob Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He will retire from Metro Nashville Public Schools in May 2009, where he has worked as a Campus Supervisor for ten years. He is also the founder of a specialty advertising business that he established in Tampa, Florida and Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The scripture that James carries in his heart is Malachi 3:10. It says: “ ‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the LORD Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.’”
Mildred Walters was baptized at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member until leaving for college. She returned to Nashville and to her home church with her family in 1994. She also pilgrimaged with James to all the above named church as they relocated for their careers. Her guiding scripture is 1 Peter 3:15: “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”
A prolific writer, she is the award winning author of four romance novels that were written under the pseudonym Christine Townsend. Her most recent project, While You’re Still Single: The Biblical Guide to Selecting Your UltiMate, is her first non-fiction endeavor.
Ms. Walters is an energetic, dynamic speaker. She has mesmerized large business conferences, church congregations and small book clubs with an engaging speaking style.
The Walters are the parents of two adult children and are the adoring grandparents of a beautiful little girl.
